"Il Guarany"(Overture): Italian opera by Carlos Gomes, Brazilian theme; anyone heard/seen it? "Overture"? - free videos of brazilian
"It (IT) Guarany" is an Italian opera by Carlos Gomes, based on a novel O Guarani, the Brazilian writer José de Alene.
It premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1870, there were European productions, then - with the exception of openness - seem lost in the story.
The opening - very similar to those of Carl Maria von Weber, in my opinion - is a staple of concerts with former Boston Pops''en under Arthur Fiedler was: was one of the standard RIP "roar" workhorses of the time.
Familiar with the opera, or just the overture Anyone? Who ever heard of him?
You could find a video of him on You Tube, the only record that I ever found (open) Is, "Brightcove" by the United States Marine Band: It's very satisfying to say the least.
Comment? Anyone?

It is discouraging, an opera, once played in the European list of shame that the media simply ignore modern in Brazil, where I spend most of their time to see, nobody knows. The fate of Adriana Lecouvreur by Cilea, Marta Flotow, Halévy, La Juive.
There is a CD version with Domingo and the provision of the Amazon are some comments and audio tracks.

My experience is limited to the reproduction of the version history with Francesco Merli, tenor and soprano Barbara Scacciati in the 30s. ) The original theme Alencar (correct spelling had before the conquest of the Indians in Brazil, are considered, in modern Portuguese, Guarani SPELT and not me, and it is a football team of S. Paulo, with this name. Gomes was the inspiration for the Italian romantic opera Aida (Verdi would have only one years later), with exotic elements. Guarany It is) an opera-ballo, with scenes of dance longer (Gomes was primarily a composer of popular music. The opening of the first recall Verdi or Donizetti style, or even Wagner's "Rienzi."
Gomes went to Milan with a scholarship to study music in 1854 and grew up in the Italian tradition.
The history, my memories, refers to a cruel Spanish governor, one daughter (Cecilia) held between baritone and tenor (the Indian Pery, son of former king), and really loves her father, the girl who finally explosions Governor's Palace at the beginning of Final IndiaAttack, while Cecilia and Pery together.
It was a spectacular opera, effective scene, must have a look, but a must listen to. Therefore, no significant discography is available. The opening and the first act duet between Pery, Cecilia ( "Sento INDOMITA somewhat forced"), are also taken in the preparation. No wine and Gomes continued, after an opera first performed in Genoa (Salvator Rosa) back to his pop music, he returned to Brazil in 1896 when, I think, wagnerist glowing.
